Union to Address Plans to Close Fostoria PlantBLADE STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES
FOSTORIA OHIO— The union representing workers at InterMetro Industries Corp. in Fostoria will meet with company officials Tuesday to discuss plans to close the plant and move 100 jobs to Mexico. InterMetro announced “tentative” plans this week to phase out manufacturing in Fostoria over the next two years. Jim Kerns, staff representative with United Steelworkers Local 1915-14, said the union expects to discuss severance packages for the 100 employees at the plant. InterMetro, which makes carts, shelving, and storage equipment for medical, food service, and other industries, plans to move the work to Mexico. Mr. Kerns said the union spoke of possible concessions at a meeting with the firm this week, but InterMetro said a potential deal likely would not provide sufficient savings.
