A poll by Gallup last week confirmed that voters believe China’s economy is stronger than ours. Today, the man who may be China’s next president visits the White House. We should extend him the hand of friendship, but insist that his nation play by the rules or face consequences. Our future is simply too important to trade away. Two weeks ago, we announced the release of three reports that show China is stealing market share from American auto parts makers, and driving American workers out of their jobs. Last week, we learned that the U.S. racked up a whopping $295.5 billion annual goods deficit with China in 2011, shattering the record set in 2010. Now is the time to let Washington know that we won’t tolerate China’s cheating on trade rules, or our government’s refusal to do anything about it. With a level playing field, American manufacturers and our workers can rebuild our industry, revitalize communities, and create opportunities for the next generation of workers. We need Congress and the administration on our side, and we need your help to get them there.
