Are Retiree`s Gonna Get the Shaft Again ?

Pen$ions Weigh On Goodyear Stock Potential

July 11, 2012 about: GT, includes: DAL, KNOW, RCD, SPHB

Goodyear Tire & Rubber (GT) must overcome $3.7 billion in underfunded pensions plus $6.3 billion in debt ($1.1 billion of which is off-balance sheet) before investors could see any upside. Somewhat aggressive accounting for its "U.S." and "Non-U.S. Pensions" and "Other Post-Retirement Benefit" plans ("pensions") understates the gravity of pensions in the company's reported earnings. However, Goodyear has been very forthright in discussing the cash flow implications of its underfunded pensions.

Contrary to Delta Airlines (DAL) and other firms we contacted, Goodyear's IR department was quite willing to answer my questions about its pensions liabilities. (More on DAL's looming pensions issues.) The company's stated plans to pay down its off-balance sheet liabilities depend on a fairly positive long-term economic outlook.

I think management at Goodyear is well aware of its off-balance sheet issues and is taking steps to address them. However, if business headwinds persist, it simply may not have the cash flow required to overcome the pension liabilities. If business does not remain buoyant, I think Goodyear's earnings estimates will have to be lowered to reflect the looming pension liabilities.

Tennessee`s Republicans Playing Politics with your Affordable Health Care Law

Gov. Haslam(R) and the Republican Legislature...Playing Politics at your Expense !

Since 2010 our state lawmakers have had the duty to start implementing the Affordable Care Act in Tennessee -- common sense health care reforms that will:

  • Strengthen your insurance policy by holding insurance companies accountable,
  • Protect responsible families from free riders who can afford to be insured but freeload off the rest of us, and
  • Expand affordable health care coverage to more than half a million uninsured Tennesseans.
But Bill Haslam and the legislature have failed to act.

First, they said they wanted to wait until the Supreme Court decided on the issue. Well, they have. The Affordable Care Act is constitutional, and it's still the law of the land. Now, instead of providing a plan for Tennessee families, Governor Bill Haslam is playing politics. Last week, he abused the power of his office and wasted our tax dollars on campaigning when he put out a false, political statement to drum up support for the architect of the Affordable Care Act, Mitt Romney. More importantly, while Haslam and the legislature plays politics, the lives of Tennesseans are at stake. It is irresponsible and destructive to hold the health and security of uninsured families hostage just to please your political buddies and special interest campaign donors.

Email Haslam and tell him enough is enough. Quit playing politics -- the lives and financial security of our families is at stake.

It`s really simple: People who work hard should be able to see a doctor when they're sick and families shouldn't have to lose their home or file bankruptcy because a loved one got hurt. The law has been confirmed and it's time to move on implementing these important health reforms for Tennessee families.

Thanks for all you do,

ROMNEY Vs. THE TEACHERS ! KINDA LOOKS THAT WAY !

VP Biden says Romney Planning 'Direct Assault' on Teachers
By Justin Sink - 07/03/12

The vice president told educators Tuesday that GOP candidate Romney sought to blame them for troubled schools.

Vice President Joe Biden told educators Tuesday that they faced a "direct assault" from Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney at the annual meeting of the National Educator's Association in Washington."I can't think of a candidate for president who's ever made such a direct assault on such an honorable profession," Biden said. The vice president reserved particular criticism for a Romney's plan to expand voucher programs for students attending the poorest public schools. You guys – educators, teachers, you are under full blown assault. Romney, Romney, Governor Romney and his allies in the Congress - their plan for public education in America is to let the states use Title I dollars to boost enrollment in private schools," Biden said. Biden went on to say that Republicans wanted to blame teachers for troubled schools."There's a pretty uniform view held by Mr. Romney and the Republicans," Biden said. "They criticize you and they blame you, they make you the fall guy, they should be thinking of ways to make your jobs easier not more difficult. Instead they hector and they lecture and they blame you and they call you selfish."By contrast, Biden said the Obama administration wanted to invest more in public education."We believe that the way to build this country is the way we always have," Biden said. "From the middle out, that's how it's always been done: invest in the things that have always made our economy grow: innovation, research, development, infrastructure, and education."The speech was warmly received by the teacher's union audience. Romney, for his part, has said dramatic changes to federal education requirements were necessary — and said the Obama Administration's close ties to teacher's unions were part of the problem in spurring that shift."Education is one issue where it should be easy to find common purpose and common solutions. And I believe the president must be troubled by the lack of progress since he took office. Most likely, he would have liked to do more. But the teachers unions are one of the Democrats’ biggest donors — and one of the president’s biggest campaign supporters. So President Obama has been unable to stand up to union bosses — and unwilling to stand up for kids," Romney said at a campaign speech in May. Romney later accused the president of wanting "it both ways" on education."He can’t talk up reform while indulging the groups that block it. He can’t be the voice of disadvantaged public-school kids, and the protector of special interests," Romney said. "President Obama has made his choice, and I have made mine: as president, I will be a champion of real education reform in America, and I won’t let any special interest get in the way. We have to stop putting campaign cash ahead of our kids."!

Editorial : It seems to this writer, that Romney ought to practice, what he preach`s ! He needs to explain his off-shoring, not only of jobs, but his money off shore? Romney does`nt have a clue ! If he is attacking Teachers now, just think what he will do ? If elected President ?

ERIC STEWART(D) for Congress(D) District#4-Tennessee

ERIC STEWART for TENNESSEE...You Bet`Cha !

by Judy Stewart...Wife & Mother

Although this was addressed to me. I feel, I must share with Tennessee Voter`s. I`m tempted to move to the 4th. District. Thanks Judy, for a wonderful and insightful letter.

Let me tell you about my husband Eric and our future Congressman.

Eric and I have been married for 18 years. He is the kind of man you can trust. Eric cares so much for his family. And he cares for your families too. He was concerned about how this campaign would affect our relationship, our family and asked for our permission to run for Congress. How could we tell him no? This is his dream. This is his chance to help families like us-- the families that work hard and struggle from time to time in this economy.

Before Eric announced he was running for Congress, we talked together as a family about what this race would entail: long nights, a lot of travel, nights away from home, missing kids' ballgames, the financial strain, the list goes on and on. Yet we knew with all of our hearts that Eric could make a difference for the hard working families of this district.

The biggest hurdle however was the amount of money a campaign like this can cost. We are by no means wealthy people and we don't have wealthy families; we've struggled in these economic times just like millions of working families all across the country. So the thought of having to raise so much money was and continues to be an enormous task.

We have to compete with the thousands, if not millions, of dollars Eric's opponent, the special interests and his buddies, Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers, are going to spend distorting the truth and lying to Tennessee families. We need your help. We need the help of your family and friends. We can't do this without you. If you can give $5, $10 or more today, we need you!

Despite hurdles, I know Eric's decision to run for Congress was and continues to be the right one, because this district needs someone who cares about people and is willing to fight for Tennessee values and Tennessee jobs. Eric has been doing this his entire life, and I am very proud to be married to a man who will always fight for the right things for the right reasons.

Now, I've been a math teacher for 19 years, but it doesn't take someone with good math skills to know that there's a lot more people who want a Congressman that works for people who work for a living than there are lobbyists that will give to Eric's opponent.

I'm proud of what Eric is doing, and I know he's doing it for the right reasons. He has always stood by me, and I'll always stand by him. Today, we need you to stand with us too. Please support Eric's fight to the top financially. We really can't do this without you and your help!!!!

Thanks for all you do,

Judy

A LOAD of CRAP~From CONGRESSMAN STEPHEN LEE FINCHER !

Congressman Stephen Fincher District#8~ Tennessee

You will find below a letter from Rep. Fincher (R), District#8 ~Tennessee. It is not a factual letter. In fact, he`s definatly imbelishing the TRUTH ! I guess you could say, he has learned rather quickly, how to politicize almost everything he says and does. To say, that he is not a "TOMMY DOUGLAS" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Douglas Would be an understatement ! He/Fincher is representing BIG INSURANCE , REAL WELL. I would hate to call him a liar ! However, if the shoe fits, well you know. If you read closly, he never miss`es a chance to call AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE > OBAMA CARE ! How do you like him now ? Tenneseans ?

Click on the link below:

http://wwwsecondchance.blogspot.com/2008/03/hontommy-douglas-greatest-canadian.html

FINCHER LETTER :

Today, the United States Supreme Court announced its ruling on the constitutionality of President Obama’s signature piece of legislation, otherwise known as Obamacare. The law was upheld and deemed constitutional, including the controversial individual mandate. The individual mandate, which requires every American to purchase health insurance, was ruled by the Supreme Court to be a tax. This is exactly what the American people have said they do not want – Washington bureaucrats between them and their doctors. Under Obamacare, a panel of unelected bureaucrats now has the unprecedented authority to make decisions on seniors’ healthcare. Additionally, Obamacare cut over $500 billion from the Medicare program, not to mention up to 20 million Americans could lose their employer-based coverage. It will force American citizens to endure diminished quality of care, increased insurance costs, and excessive taxation brought on by inefficient Washington bureaucracy. This is essentially a tax on human freedoms. The President repeatedly told the American people he would not raise taxes on middle class families, only on those families making $250,000.00 or more a year. Today, the American people received confirmation from the Supreme Court of what we have always known— this is a massive tax increase. Not only is this the largest tax increase in American history, but it expands the scope of federal power to every area of our lives. This simply must not stand. I will continue to work to repeal, defund, and replace the Obamacare with real reforms that increase access and affordability. Obamacare not only increases healthcare costs for small businesses and families, but it also pushes the country further into debt. According to the latest projection by the Congressional Budget Office, President Obama's national health care law will cost $1.76 trillion over a decade, rather than the $940 billion forecast when it was signed into law.
I’ve said before, our healthcare decisions should not be left up to the government
.(this is almost laughable) If Washington can tell Americans what healthcare coverage to purchase, what will they decide for us next (uh, auto insurance)? Simply put, this law is a massive tax increase and an attack on our personal freedoms, which cuts at the core foundation of our country. The only way to ensure the future of Americans' healthcare is to completely dismantle and repeal Obamacare.
Families should be able to make their own choices, visit the doctor of their choosing, and receive the health care they and their doctor feel is best. When it comes to your healthcare, it should be about you !

Sincerely, Stephen L. Fincher (R) Tennessee District#8

Hey Fincher, the insurance company`s now stand betweeen patients and health care providers. I suppose that is alright with you ? Just ask me ! I`m an EXPERT on the subject.

Tenneseans Affected Very Positively by OBAMACARE !

AFFORDABLE/OBAMA HEALTHCARE ACT APPROVED by SUPREME COURT

“The Supreme Court affirmed what a majority of Congress and the President already knew; that the Affordable Care Act is a constitutionally appropriate response to the health care crisis facing Tennessee families.

Because of President Obama’s leadership, millions of working families, including a half a million Tennesseans, will have access to doctors and affordable health care. “The Affordable Care Act is law, and will continue to be the law of the land. We should all come together and work in a bipartisan fashion, as did the Supreme Court, in order to ensure that all Tennesseans can take advantage of the provisions in the law that provide health and financial security, such as:
Millions of young adults will still be able to stay on their family's plan until they're 26. Many seniors will continue to save $600 a year on their prescription drugs.
Insurance companies no longer have unchecked power to cancel your policy, deny you coverage, or charge women more than men. Soon, no American will ever again be denied care or charged more due to a pre-existing condition, like cancer or even asthma. By August, millions of Americans will receive a rebate because their insurance company spent too much of their premium on administrative costs or CEO bonuses.“It is time for the legislature to start focusing on results and not politics. Tennesseans want our elected officials to move past the partisan bickering over health reforms and get to work on creating jobs and growing our economy.

Editorial : It is time to move on and stop playing politics with this our/my healthcare act !

War to End All War`s ? Have We not Learned from History ?

UNITED STATES in WAR`S
by Underdog = Don Jones

6/26/12

Just some thoughts from an older American ! Perhaps, I`m too old to know anything about anything ?

I am 73 years old. The United States of America, has been at war somewhere on this earth as long, as I can remember. World War II, Korean War, Viet Nam, have I missed any ? President Obama has ended the war in Iraq. He is trying to end the Afghanistan war as I write this. Some politicians want us to invade Iran. Why ? One of my coffee Buddie`s, says it`s the money, another says its the oil ? Some say, it is a religious war ? I pray not ! They may be right ? I`m not sure. I do know, that some of our most precious natural resources, the young men and women who fight these insane wars, are dying at rapid pace. Such a waste. Now, before you get your undies in an uproar, let me just say, I totally support our troops. These young men and women are to be praised and put on a pedestal. They are true patriots. These kids are not the wealthy kids or the sons and daughters of wealthy/rich. Nor, with the exception of Vice-President Joe Biden, our politicians kids are not fighting for this great country. I really do not know, how to feel about that. One of my coffee shop philosopher's, informed there were more civilian contractors than there were troops ? Some made more than $100,000.00 per year tax-free ? If I were a military person, I don`t think that would set well with me ! In fact, how dare us to that to our military. I think there are reasons to go to war ! I just have not heard or seen one in a very longtime. Lets just say, for the sake of discussion, the next war, we send all the politicians and wealthy kids first. Uh, war is over before it begins. I`m not sure who said "War is Hell" ? they were correct. Last night in Afghanistan 24 American military were blown up and killed. "Hey ya wanna go fishin tomorrow ? My point being, we Americans are almost totally uninvolved. With the exception of the nightly news. We cannot keep being in a war of political necessity. The price is too high ! Inform the next dictator/leader, whatever, we will not invade them. However, if they continue to feel froggy, we will annihilate them off the face of the earth. There will be no second chance ! One annihilation. Our message will be perfectly clear. I realize this is not going to happen. But, it could. The next time our Government wants to invade another country, Lets just say, for the sake of discussion, the next war, we send all the politicians and wealthy kids first. Uh, war is over before it begins. "God Bless America"!

THE PRICE of Rx. DRUGS is GOING UP !

BIG MONEY JUST KEEP$ TALKIN....WE JUST KEEP SAYING OK ! Are We NUTS ? Vote Them OUT !

Despite our best efforts, the House of Representatives passed the reworked FDA reauthorization bill (S. 3187/H.R. 5651) last week. Now the bill is moving on to the Senate--set for a vote late today. We need a groundswell of importation supporters to help us get the Senate's attention now! The secrecy with which the FDA reauthorization bill was finalized is nearly unprecedented and clearly bears the fingerprints of Big Pharma. Congress has turned a deaf ear to those of you who sent letters of opposition. Instead, they met secretly to push Big Pharma’s agenda to end safe drug importation as we know it. The consequence of this betrayal is that this virtual lifeline will be lost! Corporate interests have taken hold in our legislative body and are actively legislating their own agenda! Congress has shown a total disregard for public opinion and patient lives. It's time to stand up and voice your outrage. It's time to tell your poignant personal stories about importation and what its loss would mean to you or your loved ones. We've heard from countless folks who absolutely depend on access to imported medicine. Let's stand up to protect this virtual lifeline before it's too late! We import everything else, why not Rx. Drug$ ? Big Money ! I urge you to use our easy, online system now to send emails to your senators!

Thank you for All you do,

Mitch Danials & Adolph Hitler ~ Lot`s in Common ~ You Bet`Cha !

MUNICH GERMANY 1933 ~ RE-LIVED !

Indiana Governor Says Public-Sector Unions Shouldn’t Exist: Anti-worker Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels told Fox News last week that public-sector unions should disappear entirely.
"I think government works better without them, I really do," Daniels told Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. "There's a reason that defenders of labor ... always said that unionism had no place in the public sector, that it was necessary freedom, and it is, in the private sector. But that it was a bad idea in government," he added.

Upon taking office in 2005, Daniels signed an executive order eliminating collective bargaining rights for government employees. This led to lower salaries, pay freezes in some years, and outsourcing of government operations to private companies. Health insurance premiums for many went up nearly 200%. Workers who had 20-30 years on the job with higher pay were fired. One union local saw their membership vanish from 260 to 12 as workers were scared that management would know they paid union dues. Daniels himself said after he banned collective bargaining, union membership for state workers dropped by 90 percent. Earlier this year he signed a law making Indiana the right-to-work-for-less state.
Before becoming governor, Daniels led the Bush fiscal policy as director of the Office of Management and Budget under the Bush administration. Instead of using the Clinton surplus to pay off the national debt that he claims worries him so much today, he purposely created the massive deficits and drastically added to the national debt by irresponsibly giving tax cuts – not paying for two wars and not paying the Medicare drug program. His deregulation push helped to undermine oversight of Wall St. banks, which we know created the financial collapse. He is one of the key architects of our recession, massive deficits and debt. Then he goes to Indiana where he blames public employees and unions for the economic mess he helped create. If he were being honest, he would have blamed himself. He is typical of the duplicity of the right wing that is trying to divide the middle class to hide their agenda. Today the media reports he was just rewarded for his duplicity and divisive tactics by being named as the President of Purdue University. As head of OMB, which oversees the federal government’s sourcing policy, Daniels also pushed to review almost one million jobs for privatization under an OMB Circular A-76 process that he re-wrote to favor contractors. He also pushed for direct conversions and strongly opposed any insourcing. Before his stint at OMB, Daniels was senior vice president of Indiana's largest corporation – pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, which in 2009 was
ordered to pay $1.4 billion to settle criminal and civil allegations after pleading guilty to promoting its anti-psychotic drug Zyprexa for uses not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Another anti-worker governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin took a page from Daniels when he pushed a law to strip government workers of their collective bargaining rights. In fact, Walker said Daniels was his “model.”

Editorial : In case you hav`nt noticed, The REPUBLICAN/TEA PARTY, HAVE DECLARED WAR ON US-A FREE-DEMOCRATIC TRADE UNIONS/WORKER`S ! for now, it`s the government worker sector. Republicans are saying it is alright for the private sector. They are lying through their teeth. Wanna Bat, oops, I meant bet ! ? Republicans want you and I to have no say, in our workplace or for that matter in our live`s ! You can get involved in this WAR against the working class people or be TRAMPLED UNDER THEIR BOOTS ! The Rich and The Poor ~ 1% Vs. 99%

http://www.jimhightower.com/

"Financial Uncertainty" Good for the Poor, Not for the Rich
Tuesday, June 19, 2012 Posted by Jim Hightower

Listen to this Commentary

Outraged Republican lawmakers rise up on their hind legs and howl in protest at any suggestion that Washington should finally end the special, decade-old tax break given to millionaires and billionaires. Never mind that these privileged one-percenters(1%) are doing extremely well and don't need more taxpayer handouts, their Congressional defenders wail that any cuts in their tax benefits would spook the elites by creating "financial uncertainty" for them. Meanwhile, these same lawmakers howl in outrage about the meager unemployment payments going to America's hard-hit, out-of-work families who actually need a helping hand in today's jobless economy. More than five million of our fellow citizens have been unable to find jobs for half-a-year or more. To tide them over to better times, Congress begrudgingly okayed a supplement to state unemployment funds in February, supposedly allowing up to 99 weeks of jobless benefits.
But, lawmakers, who are so sensitive to the delicate temperaments of the one-percent, struck these "99ers" with a clause that builds "financial uncertainty" right into the law. They quietly reduced the total number of weeks of extended aid available to the jobless and made it more difficult for states to qualify for the supplement. The result is that unemployed people in 23 states have already been stunned to find that they've lost up to five months of benefits they were entitled to. Already, about half a million jobless Americans have been cut off prematurely from payments that make the difference between hanging on… and plunging into poverty. Adding insult to injury, these knock downs are rationalized by the right-wing howlers as necessary. Why? To prevent the unemployed from becoming dependent on public help – a concern that is not expressed about extended tax giveaways to the super-rich.

Government, Be It Republican or Democrat Are FAILING the 99% That`s US~A

by Don Jones = Underdog...6/20/12

Are you sick and tired of our politicians playing got`cha, with each other ? All the time, our country is failing almost all of us in the 99% ! Have we all gone nuts ? one advantage the politicians have, is never ending money from US the American Tax-Payer ! I`m sick of it. I saw a bumper sticker the other day, it said "Don`t Re-Elect Anybody"! Think about it, our Congressmen/Women have an unlimited resource, OUR MONEY ! This is not a partisan problem. DEMOCRATS and REPUBLICANS alike are both to blame. They have but one thing in common, getting our tax dollar$. WE pay their $alary, perk$, Medical in$urance, tran$portation, they take their friend$ and spou$e`s on fact finding trip$ (only the best for elected officials) and we pay for their offices in our states and Washington DC. Folks they take our money and then bribe us with it. Then they sell their vote to the highest bidder. As one of our great American patriot`s says, "You know what makes me sick" ? Our ELECTED OFFICIAL$ ! Prescription drugs are out of control. Medical Insurance company`s out of control. As a Heart-Transplant Patient, I deal with both almost on a daily basis ! As I write this blog, our politicians are debating the Prescription drug plan. It seems they do not want to import drugs from Canada or any Country for that matter. Why not ? WE import everything else, act now to counter this threat! Insurance company's are spending millions/zillions on this bill (S. 3187/H.R. 5651) trying to defeat it ! WHY ? MONEY ! I have been on a drug called TYVASO, it`s cost was outrageous ! Medicare paid for it. $12,ooo.oo per month ! I could`nt have paid for it. As our great American Patriot say`s, "Better Wake Up America" ! We elect these so-called Representatives, they just want to serve, the next time I hear that, I think, I`ll throw up ! They serve themselves ! They (politicians) have successfully divided America ! How to get the American people back together, short of revolution ? That is the QUE$TION ? "God Bless America"! Our Politicians will serve only as long as they can get RICH on US~A !

BRING OUR JOBS HOME ~ NOW !

Bring Our Jobs HOME !

Contact Tennessee Elected officials http://www.tennesseeanytime.org/topics/Elected+Officials

Did you know that over the last decade, we have lost more manufacturing jobs (as a percentage of the total) than during the Great Depression? Senators Alexander & Corker(R`s) upper left, Congressman Stephen Fincher(Republican Tea Partier) upper right. All of thse representatives are anti-union...surprise, surprise, surprise ! They also oppose minimum wage.

That’s 50,000 facilities and nearly six million manufacturing jobs gone. This outsourcing has spread to other sectors as well, like call centers, health care, administrative services and more. A 2009 study by economists Alan Blinder and Alan Krueger estimated that one in four U.S. jobs is vulnerable to offshoring. Congress can take steps NOW to stop outsourcing by eliminating tax incentives for shipping jobs overseas, passing currency manipulation legislation, enacting strong Buy American provisions and other Union priorities.
Contact Congress & Take it Public. Recently-introduced legislation, the Bring Jobs Home Act (S. 2884/H.R. 5542), would eliminate the tax incentive that outsourcing companies receive for moving expenses as they ship jobs overseas. It also rewards those companies that bring jobs back with a 20 percent tax credit on expenses incurred when moving employment back to the U.S.
Republican, Democrat or Independent: We should all agree on that.

Step 1:

Please call your Members of Congress today by dialing the Capitol switchboard toll-free at 866-297-3817.
Ask each of your Senators, Alexander & Corker to pass the Bring Jobs Home Act (S. 2884). Note: We anticipate a Senate vote on this bill during the second week in July. Ask your Representative, Stephen Fincher to cosponsor the Bring Jobs Home Act (H.R. 5542). Not sure who your two Senators and Representative are?
Check www.house.gov (enter your zip code) and www.senate.gov for a listing. If you live in District#8 Tennessee it is above.

Step 2:

We want to take our message to the public during the Fourth of July week. Think about what you can do to raise this issue in your community (parades, events with legislators, letters to the editor, etc.). THE BEST PROGRAM EVER DEVISED BY A POLITICIAN ! SOCIAL SECURITY !

Social Security ~ Medicare You Better Keep it Working !

Politicians from both parties are getting behind a plan to dismantle our Social Security system, leaving younger workers facing the worst benefit cuts. We can stop it by bringing the contents of this plan to light in a public discussion with its co-author, Alan Simpson.

Click here now to stop cuts to Social Security & Medicare!

I have seen my employers cut back on their retirement benefits, even as the value of their 401(k) and investments has plummeted. I also worry about my peers with student loans who are still struggling to find a job. That is why I realize that Social Security is more critical for young people than ever. We deserve a plan to close Social Security’s modest funding gap that reflects the economic reality we face, and maintains, or even increases Social Security’s modest benefits, while ensuring that they can be paid to today’s young and eventually, their children.

The Bowles-Simpson plan would pull our Social Security system apart brick by brick. Its change to the benefit formula would decimate middle class benefits, undermining the very fairness that has made the system so successful and popular. In fact, for some young workers, the Bowles-Simpson plan would cut benefits more than if Congress took no action whatsoever. For me this would mean a cut of $2,000 a year. Assuming that I earn the average wage over a 35-year career, my benefits would be cut more than 13 percent at whatever age I choose to claim benefits. Click here to keep Social Security benefits intact for younger Americans Now, former Senator Alan Simpson, a co-author of the Bowles-Simpson plan, is claiming his plan would help young people – and calling old people who oppose his plan “greedy geezers.” Senator Simpson thinks pitting young against old will distract attention from his plan’s drastic Social Security cuts. But no amount of bullying or bigotry can silence those of us who are concerned about what his plan’s Social Security cuts would do to Americans of all ages. If the Bowles-Simpson plan is so good for young people, Mr. Simpson should be able to explain it to us in person, where the public can judge for itself. I am leading a group of 40 Social Security experts under the age of 40 in challenging Senator Simpson to a public discussion of his plan. At first Simpson agreed to a public discussion – but now he’s backing out. What is Simpson so afraid of ?

Together we can tell Senator Simpson – and any other politician who wants to dismantle our Social Security system – that we will not be bullied into silence.

Thanks for all you do,
