A Father’s Day Story –

While campaigning in East Tennessee I was approached by a political reporter who asked, “How involved is your father going to be in your Gubernatorial campaign?” I told him that dad was going to be very involved and as proof, I shared a recent conversation we had regarding his 79th birthday gift. I asked dad what he would like for his birthday and he responded, “Mike, you don’t need to get me anything. I am going to get myself a new convertible.” I could not understand why he would want a convertible, especially since neither one of us have any hair to blow in the wind. So dad explained, “Son, I assume you know this but you are going to have to ride in a ton of parades across the great state of Tennessee. I know you are not going to be able to make them all, and I expect they will invite me to sit in your place. What you don’t know is that they are going to make you ride in these small convertibles. I can get in a small convertible but due to my size, it will take a crane to get me out. I want my own American-made, big convertible so I can ride comfortably in these parades.” Well dad went ahead and bought himself a new Chrysler Sebring convertible for the summer parade circuit. A couple of weeks later the reporter published the story with the headline, “McWherter to Go Topless in the Gubernatorial Campaign.” My father is very invested in this campaign but there is much more hard work ahead, and we need your help to keep going strong.
