National Kidney Foundation ~ Please Help...

Tell Congress to Support Pre-Dialysis Education Let’s Empower Patients with Pre-Dialysis Education Last year, over 100,000 Americans had their kidneys fail and began dialysis or received a transplant. Most were not prepared for the physical, financial and emotional realities of kidney failure, but with some advance education, they would have been able to make better choices for their situation. The NKF is calling on Congress to establish a new Medicare benefit that would provide up to 6 classes for people with Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease to learn about treatment options and how they can be more prepared for kidney replacement therapy. These classes would cover vascular access, various dialysis and transplant options, complications of chronic kidney disease (like anemia, bone disease), financial issues and psychosocial adjustment. Patients would be able to plan ahead and make better decisions about their future care.Tell Congress to support HR 1245/S 432, the Kidney Disease Education Benefits Act. In addition to helping patients make the best healthcare choices, pre-dialysis education can save money by providing patients opportunities to improve their quality of life and to delay kidney failure.Take Action!Click Here to Email Your Senators and CongresspersonMore information about this issue is available here.
